Roberta Irgens-Møller (b. 1930. USA / New Zealand / Congo / Denmark)

One does not forget the feeling of being 'the stranger'

She met her Danish husband in Paris and moved to Denmark in the early 1950s. The contrast between life in post-war Denmark in the husband’s strict family where they could not speak the same language was big for a 20 year old. She quickly had three children and, together with her husband, she worked for MS and DanChurchAid in Africa. As an 86-year-old widow she still spends six months every year in New Zealand volunteering among New Settlers. The portrait shows an outgoing woman who sees disease and suffering in a greater perspective, and still retains her optimistic life energy and engagement.
