Statement by Geir Berge Nordveit, Head of Culture Telemark County Council

 

Telemark County Council and the Board of the Regional Park Telemark Canal (the six canal municipalities, the county and the canal authority) have looked at the Life-Boats art project with interest and enthusiasm.
 
We support the project and hope that it will be completed, but we are not in a position to prioritise any funding for part-financing of the second and third boats.
 
We do, however, hope that national public funding authorities and private sponsors will be able to assist in the full financing of the three ships which will be loaded with longing, life and memories.
 
When the project is completed and the ships embark on their journey, the Telemark canal will provide a suitable backdrop for this feminine armada!
 
As professional organisers and canal owners, we look forward to collaborating on exhibiting and experiences in a beautiful canal landscape managed in accordance with the aims of the European Landscape Convention.
