Recommendation from the Cultural Leader of Helsingør Municipality, Director of the Trade

and Maritime Museum and Director of Helsingør Theatre 

 

During the autumn of 2009, we became acquainted with Marit Benthe Norheim’s work Life-boats with a view to looking at the possibilities of bringing the project to Elsinore.

 

Elsinore is experiencing a lot of changes on the cultural front these days, and during the period 2010-2012, about DKK 1.2 billion will be invested in the cultural infrastructure in the harbour area surrounding Kronborg. A new Cultural Wharf will be opened in 2010 and a new Maritime Museum will be opened in 2012.

 

During the period 2010-2012, the Elsinore project called Hjemstavn.com will be running. Hejmstavn.com is supported by the Danish Arts Council with DKK 3.2 million and has a total budget of more than DKK 7 million. Hejemstavn.com will be debating the concepts of works, promotion and audience and will be working with artistic pieces based on involvement and participation.

 

The undersigned would like to continue the positive dialogue with Marit Benthe Norheim regarding a realisation of the project in Elsinore.

 

It is not possible at the present time to give a specification of how the work will be used in Elsinore.

However, we have assessed that it is precisely this kind of artwork that will allow us to present artistic content at a high international level, which not only supports our ambitions and aims with the massive investments in culture in Elsinore Municipality, but also creates opinion and context across the individual commissions of the various cultural institutions.

 

Accordingly, we would like to give our warmest recommendations to “Life-boats” and we look forward to following the further development of the project.
